Celebrating the European Week of Sport – Podgorica, the City of Youth and Sport!
The Capital City’s Secretariat for Sport, in cooperation with its partners, will mark the European Week of Sport (September 23–30) with numerous activities aimed at raising awareness about healthy lifestyles and the importance of sport and physical activity, both among children and youth as well as older generations.
Under the official slogan “Be active”, the campaign seeks to encourage people to stay active throughout the year, adopt healthy habits, and stay informed about healthy lifestyles. Podgorica, the city of sport, proudly celebrates this important initiative of the European Commission in the spirit of its candidacy for the title of European Youth Capital 2028, with the aim of inspiring and empowering young people to be active participants in all sporting events designed in line with their needs, guided by the vision that youth create the city.
In cooperation with clubs founded by the Capital City, the Secretariat for Sport is organizing open-door days: our young fellow citizens of elementary school age will have the opportunity, at scheduled times and locations (listed at the end of the text), to try football, basketball, handball, or swimming training, and thus get acquainted with the work of city clubs.
With the support of the European House, the first one hundred citizens who, weather permitting, visit the open city pool at SC “Morača” during public hours (8 a.m.–12 p.m. and 2–7 p.m.) on Saturday, September 27, and Sunday, September 28, will be provided with free tickets.
The Secretariat for Sport, in partnership with sports associations, the European House, and the Office for Youth, will also support the Children’s Association’s activities for 30 children during one-day trips to Veruša through donations of sports equipment and gift packages.
As part of the European Week of Sport, on September 28 at the basketball court in Njegoš Park, in cooperation with Basketball Club Junior, a humanitarian 3×3 basketball tournament will be organized. The registration fee for interested teams (applications are open until September 24) is €100, and all proceeds, together with funds collected from registration fees for the Podgorica Trophy, will be donated to the family of Dejan Božović, a soldier who tragically lost his life defending Podgorica from a devastating fire.
The following day, at the “Goran Poli Bojanić” basketball court, as a prelude to the Veterans’ Small Football Tournament, competitions in sports skills will be organized for our youngest fellow citizens, in cooperation with the Office for Youth, which has prepared trophies and medals for the best participants.
As the grand finale, on September 30, at KIC “Budo Tomović,” in cooperation with the organization Sportfem, the conference “Sport from a Different Perspective” will be held, addressing three important topics with expert guests: “How does sports infrastructure dictate the functioning of clubs?”, “The influence of social media on the image of sports”, and “Health protocols and the challenges of modern sports.”
