The Capital City of Podgorica has submitted its application for the second round of the candidacy for the European Youth Capital 2028.

The Capital City of Podgorica has officially submitted its application for the second round of the competition for the title of European Youth Capital 2028, continuing the process of strategically positioning Podgorica as a city committed to the development of youth policies and the empowerment of young people.

The candidacy was initiated by the President of the Capital City Assembly, Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, and the application process was carried out through intensive cooperation among various sectors and stakeholders. The working group responsible for preparing the application brought together representatives of the Capital City Assembly, the Youth Office, the Ministry of Sports and Youth, relevant secretariats and departments of the Capital City, as well as representatives from the youth and civil sectors.

The participation of organizations such as the Youth Network of Montenegro, NGO CAZAS, the Center for Youth Education, and the Student Parliament added significant value to the process, enhancing the quality of the application through a multisectoral and participatory approach. The Capital City extends special gratitude to the Youth Office within the Secretariat for Local Self-Government and Cooperation with Civil Society, which played a key role in improving the application in line with the needs and priorities of young people.

We also express our gratitude to the Ministry of Sports and Youth, the Ministry of European Affairs, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as numerous international partners who provided support and recognized the importance of this candidacy.

Podgorica’s candidacy for the European Youth Capital 2028 represents an important step toward European integration, strengthening social cohesion, and creating new opportunities for young people. This process affirms the Capital City’s commitment to building an inclusive, open, and active society, grounded in the potential of younger generations.

The Capital City remains dedicated to enhancing the role of youth in all spheres of society, with the belief that continuing this process will bring Podgorica not only international recognition but also tangible developmental benefits and new partnerships for the future.

In the next phase of the candidacy, Podgorica faces an intensive period of preparation for the final round of selection, which includes further development of the proposed programs, detailing planned activities, and strengthening both international and local partnerships. The decision on which city will be awarded the title of European Youth Capital 2028 is expected by the end of this year.
