The central event of Youth Week, marking International Youth Day, was held on Tuesday, August 12, at the Youth Club “Youth Zone.”
At the opening, Mayor Prof. Dr. Saša Mujović, President of the Assembly Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, Secretary for Local Self-Government and Cooperation with Civil Society Slađana Anđušić, and President of the NGO “Network for Youth Activism of Montenegro” David Vukićević addressed the participants. They emphasized the crucial role of young people in society, outlined key directions for the development of youth policy, and highlighted the potential youth hold, expressing a strong commitment to improving their position through initiatives and projects.
Attendees also had the opportunity to watch video messages from young people on the importance of participation and youth activism.
Interactive workshops under the theme “Empower, Act, Connect” enabled young people to discuss mechanisms for strengthening innovation and creativity, environmental protection, and mental health. Through parallel sessions, concrete conclusions were reached and presented to the competent institutions, with their implementation expected in the near future. The workshops were facilitated by Jelena Radeč, Branka Knežević, Dr. Jelena Borovinić Bojović, and Iva Tomašević.
The panel discussion “Youth and Local Policies” provided a platform for young people to directly engage with decision-makers, present their needs, and propose directions for improving their position. Local councilors Tamara Crnogorčić, Ivana Mašković, Mitar Paunović, Mitar Šušić, Miloš Krstović, and Filip Terzić took part in the discussion, sharing their perspectives, opinions, and suggestions on youth-related issues and the overall state of youth policy in the Capital City.
The long-term development of the community largely depends on the conditions in which young people live, work, and create. The Youth Office remains committed to ensuring quality opportunities for their professional development, cultural life, and active contribution to society.
Due to emergency circumstances caused by recent wildfires in several parts of Montenegro, which tragically claimed the life of a member of the Montenegrin Army, the remainder of the program – the guided tour of the exhibition “Labyrinth of the Nineties” and the concert by the band “Parampaščad” – was canceled. The public will be informed in due course about the new date.
