Youth Makes the City! – Consultations with Youth Organizations and Young People Held in Podgorica

Organized by the Youth Network of Montenegro (Mreža za mlade Crne Gore), the event titled “Consultations with Youth Organizations and Young People – Youth Shape the City!” was held yesterday at the EU House in Podgorica. The gathering brought together a large number of young people, youth activists, civil society representatives, and decision-makers from the Capital City.

The participants were addressed by the Mayor of Podgorica, Prof. Dr. Saša Mujović, the President of the Capital City AssemblyJelena Borovinić Bojović, and the Secretary for Local Self-Government and Cooperation with Civil SocietySlađana Anđušić, who commended the engagement of the Youth Network and its Secretary General, Vladimir Perazić.

Officials from the Capital City emphasized the importance of such initiatives in continuing meaningful dialogue on key issues that affect the lives and future of young people in Montenegro – such as participation, innovation, sustainability, and public good.

One of the main topics discussed was Podgorica’s candidacy for the prestigious title of European Youth Capital 2028, an initiative awarded to cities that stand out in youth inclusion, youth policy development, and the creation of sustainable and innovative solutions for young people.

Mayor Mujović highlighted the importance of active youth participation in city life, stating that the candidacy is not merely a formal process, but an opportunity to launch a broad dialogue and shape policies that will encourage young people to stay, thrive, and make a meaningful impact in their communities.

“We want this candidacy to be a process where young people are true partners, not just observers. Your ideas, energy, and engagement are what can transform Podgorica into a city for all generations,” said Mujović. He added that the Capital City is firmly committed to this process and that it enjoys broad, cross-sectoral support.

The President of the Capital City Assembly, Jelena Borovinić Bojović, stated that the city is working to establish sustainable mechanisms for youth participation in decision-making, and that this process will further strengthen the existing structures of youth policy: “Our goal is for young people to feel they have real influence, that institutions listen to them, and that their needs are not ignored. This candidacy should be a symbol of a new, youth-focused approach to local policy.”
