Youth Participation in Focus: “Youth Networking Cafe” Held

The Network for Youth Activism of Montenegro (MOACG) organized a panel discussion titled “Youth Networking Cafe” at the Youth Club “Zona mladih,” with the aim of opening a dialogue on youth participation in decision-making processes and improving their position in society.

Moderator Teodora Đukanović from MOACG highlighted the importance of connecting young people, institutions, and organizations, emphasizing the need to turn discussion into concrete steps and cooperation.

Emina Balota from the Youth Initiatives Council of the President of Montenegro pointed out challenges related to young people’s access to information and the lack of trust in institutions.

The goal is “for young people to be heard in all policies that concern them,” Balota stated, stressing the importance of volunteerism and the need for its greater recognition and sustainability.

Danilo Vučinić from the Capital City’s Youth Office emphasized that the Office recognizes the key problems and needs of young people and has a clear direction for action in the coming period in order to adequately respond to them.

He stressed that “now is the right moment to push initiatives,” with the message that young people are drivers of change. Vučinić also pointed to challenges in the legislative framework, particularly when it comes to the insufficient recognition of volunteer work.

Tamara Rajković from MOACG and a member of the Council for the Rights of the Child under the Government of Montenegro explained that youth participation must be a continuous process, not just a formal framework.

“Every change starts with young people,” Rajković stated, explaining that despite challenges, interest among young people in active participation is growing.

Following the discussion, an informal conversation took place, during which participants had the opportunity to exchange ideas with panelists, ask questions, and establish new contacts.
